Castillo De La Duquesa

A small fishing village actually, but the name derives from  a renovated fortress originally built in the 1700's now with several offices inside. Located  on the coast in the middle of what was once a large Roman fishing village approx 1km to the west of the Puerto De La Duquesa.

For the budding archaeologist you will find much to see of Roman history from excavations in 1989, mosaic floors, a Roman bath house and its original underfloor heating, a Roman villa and graveyard also survive. This hidden village can be found by walking along the sea promenade from Puerto De La Duquesa but is also accessible by car.

Well worth a visit to sample its hidden gems - Seafood restaurants, most family run and so many to choose from. Have a wander around, a drink in one of the small bars, then sample a mouth watering freshly caught fish and a local wine.
